FRIDAY FARM REPORT 8/12/22

No Rest For the Weary

We have been very busy the last couple of weeks. I didn't get a farm report posted last week so this will be a long report.

Once again this year we had a group of kids from a summer school program come visit the farm. The especially love the goats and because they brought bags of peanuts the goats love the kids.

One boy found a couple of cicada skeletons. He was fascinated with them.

I had several kids braid my hair. lol

We served them some homemade goat milk ice cream and goat milk caramel sauce. We made them goodie bags with some honey, freeze dried skittles and soap. It is chaos but we do enjoy the kids.

Our 4 year old great grandson J came over to make pickles. This kid is crazy for pickles.

For every 2 slices of cucumber that went into the jar, 1 went into his mouth. I got caught eating one too.

We ended up making 7 quarts. He was so proud of himself and very happy he got to take them all home.

We caught some meat on sale. I got some beef and pork canned.

Some of the corn was ready to be picked

We got about 6 dozen. We are going to freeze it. Of course we did have to have some for a couple of meals

Our oldest grandson C helped me to cut the corn off the cob and package it up to be frozen.

S and G worked on a chicken plucker. S had a small washer they are using the make it. S is putting the chicken fingers in it.

This is the outer tub that collects the water to drain

This is the finished product. They put in a bicycle helmet in it to see if it works. The helmet bounced around like they wanted.  Of course a bicycle helmet doesn't have feather so we will see.

I had a gallon of milk so I decided to make some garlic and herb goat cheese.

I made some Zucchini Pineapple. It is a mock pineapple.

16 cups of cubed or grated zucchini, 1 1/2 cup lemon juice, 3 cups sugar, and 1 46 oz can of pineapple juice. Mix all ingredients and simmer for 20 minutes. Fill pint jars leaving 1/2" headspace and waterbath can for 15 minutes.

I have decided since the price of my soap supplies has risen so much, I will just use what I have on hand then close shop when it is gone.

How was your week?
