Busy days on the Farm
Sonny did a video tour of the farm.
We worked on the boys barn this week. We could only do several hours a day because of the heat. We got the wether's side done. Still need to do the bucks side. Thank you to M1, M2, L, Summer and Zach for helping. It is so appreciated.
I watch a homesteader you tube every few days she posts. She had a post on a Coal Miner's Cake. I decided to make it. Oh my goodness!! It is so moist. I am not really a huge cake fan but this is an awesome cake. I made it into 3 smaller pans. Plan was to eat one, give one away and freeze the third. The third pan never made it to the freezer. Try this cake, you won't be sorry.
Coal Miner's Cake

1 Devil’s food cake mix
1 can Cherry pie filling
1 tsp Vanilla
1 c Sugar
1 Stick butter or margarine
1/4 c Evaporated milk
6 oz Chocolate chips
1/2 c Pecans or walnuts; chopped
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix first 4 ingredients. Bake in a 9x13x2 inch
greased pan for 30 to 35 minutes.
*** Topping *** In saucepan, combine sugar, butter, evaporated milk, chocolate chips and nuts. Bring to a boil over low heat. Boil for 1 minute. Immediately pour over hot cake. Can be served hot or cold. Very rich.
We ordered a shipping container and it came this week. We needed more storage and this will be perfect. Things like the tiller, snow blower, wood chipper etc we only use like once a year but takes up so much space. We are trying to purge some and get a bit more organized. Eventually we want to paint it so it looks a little better than just a shipping container.
The garden is doing great so far. Almost to the point we can't walk through the aisles.
we have been picking a few veggies from the garden. Mostly cucumbers and zucchini. Jalapenos are about ready to harvest in another day or two. Now I need to figure ways to use up zucchini because there is still more to come. I only planted 3 plants.
That's it for now. How was your week?
