Yes We Can!
This week, Mom started the canning season in her brand new shed. We have yet to name the shed, but Im hoping to land on "The Maple Shack" but Im confident it will eventually be known as "Mom's Shed" or something like that.
She utilized this new space to can five jars of turkey bone broth from the leftovers from Thanksgiving. Store bought broth has nothing on these delicious jars of country goodness and will last for years.
Since thanksgiving has passed, we are transitioning into full Christmas mode.
With the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, we often find ourselves anxious and stressed about what to buy and trying to keep up with our busy schedules, but it's very important to take a breath and reflect on the season. Ebeneezer Scrooge's nephew sums it up succinctly when we first meet him in Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol",
“There are many things from which I might have derived good, by which I have not profited, I dare say,' returned the nephew. 'Christmas among the rest. But I am sure I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round—apart from the veneration due to its sacred name and origin, if anything belonging to it can be apart from that—as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. And therefore, uncle, though it has never put a scrap of gold or silver in my pocket, I believe that it has done me good, and will do me good; and I say, God bless it!”
Soon, the house and farm will transform it's atmosphere into all sorts of incredible Christmas smells, including cookies, pies, and our new wax melts, which are now for sale on our online store, along with our goat milk soaps, lotions and other great products.
A sparrow smacked into our sliding glass door and completely knocked himself out, luckily, Dad channeled his inner Dr Pol and nursed the little guy back to consciousness.
I also started a woodworking project this week, building a folding laundry table. I'll have updates in the weeks to come as it comes to life.
Alright, sorry for the late entry this week, but better late than never!
