Fall Clean Up
The weather has turned cooler and it feels like fall. We got a few projects done the last 2 weeks.
The barn, garage and basement are places to put things that you don't know what to do with it. When it gets to a point there is just a walkway then it is time to clean up. G worked on cleaning his barn for several days. He has to cover everything because the birds think the barn is a huge birdhouse and leaves deposits everywhere.
I made some beef bone broth. This is the roaster pan that I put beef bones, onions, carrots, celery and garlic and roasted them. After they were done roasting I filled the roaster with water, added salt, pepper, bay leaves, cumin and simmered it for about 36 hours. Then it gets strained and refrigerated overnight. The next morning I skim off the fat and boil. Filled the jars and pressure canned it. I ended up with 9 pints of the best beef bone broth. I was going to get pictures of the process but forgot.
We cleaned out the garden beds.
We still need to clean up the aisles
We planted the garlic in this 5 foot grow bag. We will see how well the grow bags work.
G worked on the nasty front flowerbed. It was the only one we didn't get done this year. He tore out a half dead juniper bush. He was going to cut down the lilac bush in the corner but his chainsaw wouldn't turn over. He sprayed weed killer. We will lay black plastic over the winter to kill everything. Next spring we will add the compost, woven weed cloth, finish the border and add the plants.
We had 2 baskets of the ugliest sweet potatoes you have ever seen. I canned in medium syrup one basket. Canning makes them very soft. I like them mashed with brown sugar, butter and cinnamon so it is perfect for that. Canning season for the most part is done for the year. I will still probably can some meats, bone broth and soups later.
I vacuum sealed and froze the other basket for a bit firmer sweet potato.
Not fall clean up but I am way ahead of the game for Christmas. I got all the gifts wrapped
I have been working on our stuff for the craft show. I made some soap, lotion, bath bombs, shower steamers, bath salts and lip balm.
We will be doing a craft show November 13th in Westerville.
