Garden and Barn Clean Up

We started to clean the garden up this week.

There still were some tomatoes and peppers on the vine. I am so done with preserving the tomatoes and peppers so our little farmhands pick a basket and took them home. The loofahs are about done. We picked three that were dried. The kidney beans were ready. We got about a quart and half.

We also harvested the sweet potatoes. Some of them were huge. A lot of them were cracked. I read that the reason for cracking was too much water at the end of the season. They are drying in the greenhouse right now. I will be canning them probably next week.

G finally got his tractor back! We started cleaning the girls barn. Our farmhands came over when they heard the tractor. They watched for a few minutes then M1 took the shovel from me, M2 took the pitchfork from G and L even went back to his house to get another shovel.

These boys are only 6,8, and 10 but they worked just as hard as an adult. I am so impressed with their work ethic. They come over every morning and evening to feed the critters. Their parents did a good job. After we were done G let the boys take a turn driving the tractor.

M1 learned to use the bucket to dump the waste into the compost pile.

L took his turn. He needs to grow a few inches and gain a few pounds. He would have to lift himself off the seat sometimes to reach the pedal. If you get up off the seat the tractor shuts down. He got a bit better at being able to sit on the seat and reach the pedals.

M2 taking his turn. He did well but needs to grow a few inches too. All three boys said they thought driving the tractor would be fun but not that much fun. Next will be the boys barn.

The neighbors ducks come and visit with us. Wednesday we went to the store  and all 3 ducks were eating the sunflower seeds. When we got back there was only two there. We sadly found out later that one had died. We don't know what happened but the boys said it's guts were hanging out. We are assuming something attacked it. RIP

We will be doing a craft show November 13th in Westerville.
